Turkey is a country steeped in history and, if you know where to look, you will find unspoilt villages with bougainvillea-covered terraces, crystal clear seas and wonderfully hospitable people. Our experience is that this is a country that sees visitors as guests to be made welcome and offers with pride the great food, sights and experiences their country has to offer. The current exchange rate also means this is a great value destination especially with Europe becoming more expensive for Brits travelling abroad.

Here at Holmes Travel we worked for many years with Turkey experts, Exclusive Escapes, but sadly they have ceased trading. Instead we now deal direct with the hotels that our customers like best and regularly return to visit. These hotels are all along the stunning Lycian coast that stretches either side of the airport at Dalaman that is served by various airlines including British Airways and Easyjet. This coastline is truly spectacular. Mountains covered in pine forests plunge into turquoise sea. There are coves and beaches but this is not an area of mass tourism. Ancient ruins are everywhere and small harbour towns like Kalkan and Kas retain their charm despite their embrace of the needs of tourists in terms of great restaurants and shops. The coastline is best viewed from the sea and there is plenty opportunity to take boat trips for the day or even stay aboard a traditional gullet.

The hotels we use are arguably some of the most dramatic and stylish in Europe and make for a very memorable stay. They are all privately owned and unique in their own right. Choose between uber-chic Villa Mahal, voted by Conde Naste as one of the world’s most romantic boutique hotels, the Beyaz Yunus Olu Deniz, an exquisite boutique hotel which is a secret paradise right on the beach or the Deniz Feneri Lighthouse, one of the most stylish sea-front properties in Turkey. If you want to get away from it all then the Dionysos Estate is the perfect retreat, perched on an escarpment overlooking the Bay of Kumlubuk, the enormous infinity pool seems to extend into the horizon and blend with the panoramic views of the sea below.

Alternatively, many people choose to rent villas and we can direct you to suitable options.
Reminder: British nationals will need a visa to enter Turkey which should be purchased prior to travel via an e-visa application process. In order to apply for a visa you should have a minimum of 6 months validity on your passport. Currently, the cost of the e-visa is 20 US Dollars. Please contact us and we will be happy to arrange this for you.
