NIKKIS VISIT TO AUSTRALIA MAY 2009
|
|
I recently embarked on a trip downunder with my family. TRIP SUMMARY Travelling with Singapore Airlines on the new A380 made the journey time pass quickly to Singapore where we stopped for 2 days before flying onto Sydney. The A380 is a much quieter plane and in economy it has that little bit more leg room and, if you are lucky to be on the window, there is an extra compartment to put your pillows and blankets in. The entertainment-on-demand system has something for everyone no matter what age or language you speak. We stopped 2 days in Singapore on the way out, getting the night flight out so you arrive in Singapore at night. It works well, as you can get to the hotel, have something to eat and go straight to bed, waking up the next morning not out of synch. Whilst in Singapore we did some shopping, had afternoon tea at Raffles (this needs to be prebooked) and did the night safari at the Singapore Zoo to mention a few things - a stopover city with something for everyone. We then flew onwards again on a Singapore Airlines A30 for a further 7 hours to Sydney. This is a very vibrant, cosmopolitan city. The main area is Circular Quay - from here you can get a ferry to many places including Taronga Zoo, Manly and Bondi Beaches and you can walk along the quay to the Opera House. From this point you can also walk to an area called Rocks which has many older buildings with cobbled streets - a great place to hang out at night time. This is also the area to climb the bridge. The bridge climb takes approximately three and a half hours of which this includes an extensive safety briefing, breath test and getting kitted out to climb the bridge with a guide. After 5 days in Sydney we then flew internally to Perth on Qantus Airlines. Perth has a very pleasant climate being warm but not humid. There are plenty of places to visit in and around Perth including Rottnest Island which you can get to by ferry - it is carless but you can see the beautiful landscape by bike, various beaches along with Point Walter where you can walk most of the way out into the Swan River as this is a sand shelf, Cottesloe and Scarborough beaches, the town of Fremantle where you can visit the prison in which the first convicts were processed from the UK, visit the large fresh food markets, or just relax taking in the view at one of the very many cafes or local brewery. Going further afield you can go wine or beer tasting in Swan Valley or Margaret River in the south or Kalbarri up north taking in the beautiful scenery and every morning take part in feeding the local pelicans. |
